I am loving the richness of Jacob's book. I read Eric Cline and Joshua Bowen's books first by chance, which I think allowed me to read Jacob's in a more fluid fashion.

It's a bit simplified and disregards the political structures within the abrahamic culture. The law is to preserve the priestly hood and the families that go with those complexities. In short it's about control .. as humans always thrive to control the environment and others .. so it IS about theology

Thank you for this. I finished high school in 2005, and I was a huge fan of Homer as well as the movie Troy around that time. That was pre-youtube, pre-social media. I did a lot of research on my own (i didnt go on to study classics) Your channel resonates so much with my younger self, its feels like time travel for me to go through these points. Who Wrote the Bible is a great book! I do believe the J, I, E, and P writers did most of the beginning Old Testament.

It is a fictional storybook written by humans who were into grift, fearmongering and power seeking using ignorance coupled with mythological malarkey and superstitious hogwash to enact slave morality over non-death cult individuals. No need to overthink it at all.

The English Royal family pre- Elizabeth 2nd might be classed as being the next "best" thing to being incestuous. Generations of cousins marrying cousins and breeding. I wonder if that restricted gene pool, that gives rise to insular dwarfism, is why the English Queens and other Royal females are so small. Perhaps that's why Charles, Anne and Andrew married and bred with non-Royals, in order to help "clean the gene"? This interview gives much food for thought.

If you're interested, you should look into Cleopatra VII's daughter Kleopatra Selene and what she was up to with Juba II in Numidia, trying to create a mini-Ptolemaic revival- great stuff. Interesting I think the true end of the antiqity is not 476 AD, but it would be better 536 AD. It may be the irone age (antiqity) was between 1177 BC to 536 AD (instead of 476 AD). Phoenicians was succesful to restart the trading after 1177 BC. Only some city got seriouse problem in Phoenicia as Ugarit.

I was glad LL-J went into the meaning of the name Cleopatra. That’s something I’ve been trying to find casually for years with no success. The more explicit colonial framing was interesting. That is a subtext in most of the ancient history I read but I’m not sure I’ve read such a thorough explication of the colonial project that occurred in ancient history. I’ve read about the Cleopatras from the Seleucid perspective but hadn’t seen much about the Ptolemaic line.
